September 2007
This is a busy month for both of the bands with the Senior Band representing the Midland's First Section as Champions at the National Finals and the Youth Band performing at two concerts with their new conductor, Pete Hylton.
Pete took over from Fay Bayliss in July who stepped down after 5 years with the Youth Band. Fay's skill and enthusiasm with the band and youngsters has paid dividends with many players progressing into the Senior Band.
September 15th saw Pete's first outing with the band at South Derbyshire District Council's Tenant's Open Day. The band played two half-hour slots and enjoyed brilliant weather, an appreciative crowd and free bouncy castle / climbing wall and entertainment. Several of the band reappeared after lunch with various face paintings - certainly the first time a dog and a tiger have played in a brass band!
A few days later saw the Band play a mini concert for a local nursing home. This was a lovely evening as the band were delighted to have entertained a small crowd of very enthusiastic residents - including one young lady who was enjoying their birthday! The band are always happy to entertain and if you would like us to come and do a mini-concert, then please get in touch on our contact page.
